Shopping List – April 2014

Introducing the first of monthly installments of my shopping / wish list!  I have carefully compiled my top shopping picks for April based on the transition to warmer weather, spring pastels, and items I’ve wanted to add to my closet for quite some time — and all but one are $60 or under (and in some cases, way under $60)!  Of course, I had to include one splurge item that I’ve been stalking for the last two months.  The Marc by Marc Jacobs Techno Block Slim Zippy is my perfect blend of practical/neutral meets sassy/bold, and I wouldn’t mind getting it as a gift. (Hint hint, wink wink, boyfriend!)

Feeling Flat

Steve Madden Vamp Flats

This past week I was thinking about how I could showcase my still-new Steve Madden d’Orsay flats, when it dawned on me – why not do a tribute to all things flat(s)?!  More often than not, I catch myself reaching for the flats in my closet to complete an outfit.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I refuse to wear heels; it’s just that the practicality of flats matched by  Continue Reading

Late for an Important Date

Something you must know about me:  I am habitually late for just about everything.  And if I’m not late, it’s most likely because I’ve rushed to get ready as quickly as possible, turning my apartment into one incredibly messy closet in the process.  I openly admit — much to my friends’ dismay — that my punctual inabilities have led me to run out the door with wet hair and a belt or other accessory in hand.

Charlotte Olympia Fashionably Late Flats

Now, since fashion and haste don’t necessarily make the best combination, I’ve been told countless times to plan my outfits beforehand or shower and start my hair the night before.  Quite frankly, these tactics (though great for some) just do not work well for me. So I’ve compiled my top five practical tips for getting ready in a hurry.

1.  Stock your closet with basics.  Neutral and versatile pieces truly make your style-in-a-flash world go ’round since they provide a base from which to start and can be styled relatively quickly. Don’t overlook a pair of classic dark-wash jeans or a flattering tank that looks great under a blazer.  Other functional wardrobe essentials include simple crew Continue Reading

Longer Lengths

Ann Taylor Ponte Seamed Sheath Dress

I would like to begin by saying thank you, Ann Taylor; you are making my life easier one work dress at a time.  Ann Taylor’s newest arrivals feature this darling white, nude, and black sheath dress that is so figure-flattering and, most excitedly, is long enough to fall to the tops of my knees.  Seldom am I able to buy a dress right off the rack that is long enough for Continue Reading

Make a Statement

Statement jewelry has never been more popular.  Bigger and bolder rule the day when it comes to adorning our necks, ears, fingers, etc., and no retailer will let us forget it.  While I am rather fond of statement necklaces, which allow me to mix pearls, gems, stones, and metal and still walk out the door without looking too foolish, I am even more a supporter of statement earrings.  The right pair of statement earrings has the ability to Continue Reading
