Wear To – Memorial Day

Memorial Day is just around the corner (literally, it’s in five days), which means that most everyone is gearing up for a weekend full of backyard barbecues, pool openings, and general outdoorsy time.  I, too, plan to soak up the (almost) summer sun this weekend with a burger and cool drink in hand, so to optimize my time outside, I planned my barbecue-attending outfit in advance.

My key for Memorial Day style is to keep it simple and comfortable.  Too many layers or moving pieces just serve to distract from the festivities, so I find it better to sport an effortless tee, casual skirt, and flats when heading to a day-long event.  (The skirt, unlike a pair of denim shorts, gives me enough wiggle room just in case I eat that extra burger.)  Because the weather this time of year can still be a bit finicky, I’ve also planned to throw a light summer sweater into the bag just in case.

LOFT Essential Scoop Neck Tee  //  Previous Season’s Zara Basic Red Ponte Skirt (similar here and here)  //  Last Season’s Sperry Rainbowfish Boat Shoe  (similar here)  //  Fossil Virginia Watch  //  Forever 21 Spiked Stretch Bracelet  //  Black and Gold Statement Necklace (other favorites here and here)

What are some other items you won’t find me without this weekend?  My tried and true nautical tote will be holding a classic read or two, my favorite aviators, mint eos, and hopefully, I’ll be able to add my swim suit to the mix, weather permitting.

What are you wearing to Memorial Day festivities?
