It took me far too long to jump on the maxi bandwagon, but in the hot hot heat of summer 2014, I’m glad I did. I bought my first maxi dress at the tail end of last summer on super sale from LOFT, after searching long and hard for one that didn’t boast a giant floral print and was long enough to actually graze the tops of my feet. Luckily, I found this navy and off-white number that I now just about live in on summer weekends and leaves me saying ‘maximize me!’ Continue Reading
Dots and tribal and lemons, oh my! I decided to kick off summer in a cheery, pattern-popping way by toying around with several of the patterned pieces taking up residence in my closet. And with this pattern play, I focused on mixing neutral textural patterns with bolder statement patterns (see below for more on mixing patterns) to create a subtle patterned look.
With the summer season comes pool days, beach vacations, and…casual Fridays at the office! I jump at the chance to temporarily escape from suit separates and button downs when the sun is beating down on me and the humidity is already at 80% by 8am. Speaking of the heat/humidity — it’s never easy dealing with the summer sun outside while the office building inside is colder than the polar vortex. To compensate, I try to reduce my outfits to layers — like sleeveless shells or dresses with blazers or fitted jackets. (Blazers are also a quick way to professional-ize my outfit if I suddenly get called into a more formal meeting.) Continue Reading
It’s the last weekday of the month, so that means you get a double-dose of The Glamour Less with a second post – this time on my top shopping picks for the month of May. For this shopping list, I looked for spring-to-summer transition pieces that could easily be dressed up or down, depending on the effect of the hot and humid weather on my motivation to get all dolled up. Though a couple of my picks are over $100 full-price (i.e., the C. Wonder dress and the Marc Jacobs top), these pieces are frequently on sale for well-below their ticket price. In fact, the MJ top is marked down right now to $92, but I’ve seen it go as low as $81 — and for any given C. Wonder sale, you’re likely to get at least 30% off full-priced styles.

Introducing the first of monthly installments of my shopping / wish list! I have carefully compiled my top shopping picks for April based on the transition to warmer weather, spring pastels, and items I’ve wanted to add to my closet for quite some time — and all but one are $60 or under (and in some cases, way under $60)! Of course, I had to include one splurge item that I’ve been stalking for the last two months. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Techno Block Slim Zippy is my perfect blend of practical/neutral meets sassy/bold, and I wouldn’t mind getting it as a gift. (Hint hint, wink wink, boyfriend!)
