The Glamour Less is back at it after a short delay earlier this week. Between a fireworks-filled Fourth of July and stormy weather that knocked my power out for hours on end, blog posts had to take a temporary hiatus while life took over for a moment. But that all seems to be over now, and I’ll be bringing you two posts to close out this week and should be back to regular posting thereafter.
About two weeks ago, I took the plunge and ordered a handbag online through MyHabit (which, if you don’t subscribe, is Amazon’s response to Rue La La, Gilt, etc. and is a great place to discover new brands). I say “plunge” because I’m rather averse to ordering clothing and accessories online without first viewing them in-person or knowing a bit about the brand, but at that point, I had been handbag shopping for so long I felt desperate enough to risk it. A little backstory: Since May, I had been searching for a small but sturdy crossbody bag that could become my summer go-to. I wanted something I could take with me to casual events, like farmers’ markets, outdoor movies, and patio brunches, and I knew I wanted my bag to be genuine leather at a reasonable price.
Keeping it calm, cool, and collected this Fourth of July with a breezy tank, comfy shorts, and simple sandals. For our Fourth plans, we’re staying local (in the nation’s capital, of course), and will be attempting to avoid the massive influx of tourists for three days while still partaking in the holiday festivities. Luckily, we can skip trekking downtown this year, and instead, can see most all the firework displays in the DMV area from the comfort of our own roof. Continue Reading
Some summer styles coming at you for June’s wrap-up! This month, I’m featuring color-popping pieces that can summon the summer sun even on the dreariest of days. Even better, all the picks are under $80.
It’s the last weekday of the month, so that means you get a double-dose of The Glamour Less with a second post – this time on my top shopping picks for the month of May. For this shopping list, I looked for spring-to-summer transition pieces that could easily be dressed up or down, depending on the effect of the hot and humid weather on my motivation to get all dolled up. Though a couple of my picks are over $100 full-price (i.e., the C. Wonder dress and the Marc Jacobs top), these pieces are frequently on sale for well-below their ticket price. In fact, the MJ top is marked down right now to $92, but I’ve seen it go as low as $81 — and for any given C. Wonder sale, you’re likely to get at least 30% off full-priced styles.
The word’s out — Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale started last week, and fashion-enthusiasts everywhere are jumping for joy and flocking to their nearest stores. This is the first year that I’ve lived within walking distance of a Nordstrom, so I’ve been popping in to scour the racks since day one of the sale. So far, I picked up share two incredible pieces that I can’t wait to start wearing.
1. Pour La Victoire Yves Medium Satchel in Navy
Though not the spring-iest of colors, this stunning navy bag caught my eye in a sea of discount designers as a classic, multi-season, work-appropriate bag. Its unique shape opens up into a roomy Continue Reading
