In a slightly different take on Trend Trials this month, I’m bringing you a list of trends that I wish would disappear just as fast as they came to be. Though I haven’t tried out each and every one, my spidey sense tells me that these trends are often unflattering, unappealing, and unworthy of our valuable fashion time.
1. Crop Tops. I may be in the minority when I say that I.hate.crop.tops. These barely-there half-shirts/stomach exposés simply don’t translate well from celebrity and blogger style to fashion for the average woman. Granted, I loved Emma Stone’s Met Gala cropped number, but there is absolutely no way I or any of my fellow working women could or should attempt to sport the crop top in everyday life. (I won’t even get in to how unacceptable crop tops are in an office environment, even with high-waisted skirts.) In my humble opinion, let’s stop trying to make ‘crop’ happen. Continue Reading
With the summer season comes pool days, beach vacations, and…casual Fridays at the office! I jump at the chance to temporarily escape from suit separates and button downs when the sun is beating down on me and the humidity is already at 80% by 8am. Speaking of the heat/humidity — it’s never easy dealing with the summer sun outside while the office building inside is colder than the polar vortex. Another new type of post coming at you today with the start of Splurge v. Save! Since this isn’t a new concept, I won’t bore you with a long-winded explanation, but I will tell you what I’m doing with these posts that strays slightly from the norm. With my ‘Save’ picks, I may not necessarily choose the least expensive item out there (because let’s face it, sometimes cheap price = cheap quality), but through a combination of store sales, coupons, promo codes, etc., I’ll show you how to get the ‘Save’ to a much more reasonable price without sacrificing all the quality of the more expensive ‘Splurge’ item.
For those of you in Washington DC, you know that the weather this week has brought us everything from 90 degrees + humidity to lightning and torrential downpours — and this only prefaces what we can expect as we move into the summer months. To gear up for the swamp that will be DC, I’ve been thinking about pieces I can add to my wardrobe that won’t leave me running for the nearest air conditioner. What’s at the top of my list, you ask? Hands down, it’s embellished tops, and I’ve pulled together three styles at three different price points to suit your fancy.
