Buzz Worthy: From Running Shoes to Fourth of July Sales

1.
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of new running shoes on and off for about three weeks now, and recently stumbled upon this very helpful infographic.  Know your feet, know your environment, and know your laces, folks.

2.  End up with more than your fair share of bug bites every summer but hate using run-of-the-mill bug spray?  Well, Aromaflage has the non-smelly, non-DEET (non-cheap) product for you.  This botantical fragrance doubles as insect repellent and retails for $30 for a 8ml vile.  (h/t Style.com) Continue Reading

Wear To – Fourth of July

Keeping it calm, cool, and collected this Fourth of July with a breezy tank, comfy shorts, and simple sandals.  For our Fourth plans, we’re staying local (in the nation’s capital, of course), and will be attempting to avoid the massive influx of tourists for three days while still partaking in the holiday festivities.  Luckily, we can skip trekking downtown this year, and instead, can see most all the firework displays in the DMV area from the comfort of our own roof. Wear To – Casual Friday

With the summer season comes pool days, beach vacations, and…casual Fridays at the office!  I jump at the chance to temporarily escape from suit separates and button downs when the sun is beating down on me and the humidity is already at 80% by 8am.  Speaking of the heat/humidity — it’s never easy dealing with the summer sun outside while the office building inside is colder than the polar vortex.  To compensate, I try to reduce my outfits to layers  — like sleeveless shells or dresses with blazers or fitted jackets.  (Blazers are also a quick way to professional-ize my outfit if I suddenly get called into a more formal meeting.) Ask The Glamour Less – Packing Strategy

Introducing a new series on the blog — Ask The Glamour Less.  Send your style questions this way!

HELP! I’m leaving for a 20-day Europe backpacking excursion (aka only getting to pack 4 outfits I re-wear again and again), immediately followed by a wedding + week at the beach in NYC which I have to pack for pre-Europe.

No clue what to pack or how to even wrap my mind around it, but I want to look less travel-shabby and more beach-chic, if possible.

Ideas?

Packing for a vacation, no matter the length, is an endeavor not for the faint of heart.  But as you’re gearing up to fill your suitcase this summer, remember that packing does not have to be (and most likely won’t be) perfect, and it can be simplified if you keep several tips and strategies in mind.

  1. Stick to the basics.  Sticking to versatile, stress-free basics doesn’t mean that you can only pack white tees and denim shorts, but think practical and functional (e.g., leave behind the top that you can only wear with a certain bra that requires some adjusting…) and pack pieces that easily complement each other and can be worn multiple ways for multiple occasions (e.g., simple sheath or wrap dresses, sleeveless shells, and tailored shorts usually fit this bill).  No matter what, I always recommend throwing a pair of dark jeans in your suitcase — they’ll come in handy more often than you think.
  2. Choose your palette.  Planning outfits ahead of time and packing pieces based on a central color-scheme will eliminate on-vacation indecisiveness or possible mismatching.  Neutrals are Continue Reading
